Consultation on Green Paper "From Challenges to opportunities - towards a Common Strategic Framework for EU research and innovation funding"

The European Commission Green Paper proposes major changes to EU research and innovation funding to make participation easier, increase scientific and economic impact and provide better value for money. The changes, to be introduced in the next EU budget after 2013, would bring together the current Framework Programme for research, the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology. The Commission was seeking the views of all interested individuals and organisations on these proposed changes and on the specific questions set out in a EC Green Paper via an on-line consultation in May 2011. To ensure that Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities (SSH) will play more than a marginal role in the future EU research funding, NET4SOCIETY has decided to promote SSH insights via:

1) Submitting a NET4SOCIETY Position Paper in the Green Paper Consultaton, which was handed over in the European Parliament on May 3, 2011. The coordinated NET4SOCIETY Position Paper can be downloaded here.

2) Supporting SSH researchers contributions to the Green Paper Consultation by providing suggested answer components to selected questions for inspiration and use (consultation closed on May 20).

Our answer suggestions for included a suggestion for a “Societal Challenge: Understanding Europe in a Global Context” as a future SSH part of the programme.

The results on the Green Paper consultation on the Common Strategic Framework for EU Research and Innovation funding were presented by the Commission on June 10 in Brussels.
