Members of the Horizon 2020-funded Science Diplomacy Projects form European Union Science Diplomacy Alliance

Following the success of three research and innovation projects on science diplomacy funded under the Horizon 2020 programme, 16 participating institutions have launched the European Union Science Diplomacy Alliance. The members of the Alliance will support research, training and networking to advance science, technology and innovation diplomacy in Europe and beyond to address global challenges.

New series of factsheets "Success stories in SSH – STEM collaboration" published!

This new series of factsheets highlights good practices examples in the field of the integration of Social Sciences and Humanities. Diversity, democracy and solidarity in EU societies: new brochure by REA and DG RTD

Can ethnographic case studies and quantitative research help to understand the ways stigmatised or conflictual youngsters engage with social, environmental and political issues, and how they create opportunities for social change? How do populists use social media? How could we use history to encourage debate amongst teenagers about religious tolerance? The projects presented in the new brochure, Diversity, democracy and solidarity in EU societies, prepared jointly by the Research Executive Agency (REA) and Directorate-General Research and Innovation (DG RTD), address these and many other questions, all sharing a common goal: helping understand how to create a more cohesive, inclusive and democratic Europe.

Public consultations launched by the European Commission

The European Commission launched a public consultation on the Horizon Europe First Strategic Plan 2021-2024 and on the European Democracy Action Plan.

The World Pandemic Research Network has been launched

The coronavirus pandemic will have massive societal and human consequences. All around the world, researchers have set up projects to make sense of what happens and to generate knowledge to better cope with the impending challenges, including projects from the social sciences and the humanities. There is a pressing need to get a global view of who does what and how, to facilitate sharing, collaboration, capitalization, transfer, and to limit errors, redundancies. As a response, the World Pandemic Research Network (WPRN) has just been launched.

The European Commission recently published the fourth edition of the monitoring report on the integration of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) in Horizon 2020. This report assesses how the different SSH disciplines have been integrated into the projects funded in 2017 under the Societal Challenges, the Industrial Leadership and the European Research Council.
